Hemostatic agents.

چکیده

emostasis is defined as “the stoppage of bleeding, hemorrhage, or blood flow through a blood vessel or body part.” Hemostatic agents improve hemostasis by improving primary hemostasis, stimulating fibrin formation, or inhibiting fibrinolysis. 1 Although transfusion of platelets (PLTs) and hemostatic factors are mainstays of therapy, pharmacologic agents are important adjuncts as blood products become increasingly in short supply, and alternative therapies need to be considered. Multiple pharmacologic approaches with hemostatic agents to treat or prevent bleeding are based on either preventing or reversing the defects associated with preexisting or acquired coagulopathy, with patients often presenting with multiple problems. The increasing use of drugs in cardiovascular medicine that inhibit PLT function or thrombin including clopidogrel, low-molecular-weight heparins, fondaparinux, and melagatran present the clinician with agents that may not be readily reversible with standard therapies. 2 Therapeutic approaches for pharmacologic management with hemostatic agents are listed in Table 1. Newer therapies including the potential use of recombinant activated factor (F) VIIa as a therapy for refractory bleeding will also be considered. H APROTININ

Clinical and laboratorial description of the differential diagnoses of hemostatic disorders in the horse

The process of fibrin clot formation is a series of complex and well-regulated reactions involving blood vessels, platelets, procoagulant plasma proteins, natural inhibitors, and fibrinolytic enzymes. Vasculitis can be caused by a variety of different agents as bacteria, viruses, protozoal, rickettsial organisms, toxic, drugs, medications, and neoplasms. The most common cause of vasculitis is t...

Effects of Three Hemostatic Agents on Microleakage of Cervical Composite Resin Restorations Bonded to Simulated Caries-Affected Tooth Substrate Using One-Step Self-Etch Adhesive

Background and Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the microleakage of cervical res-torations with the use of a one-step self-etch adhesive after application of three differ-ent hemostatic agents. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 96 cervical cavities were prepared on 24 intact and 24 demineralized teeth. Forty-eight class V cavities with sound tooth substrate were assigned to group...

Topical hemostatic agents: a systematic review with particular emphasis on endoscopic application in GI bleeding.

C O GI bleeding (GIB) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Endoscopic management of GIB could be challenging, despite the existing advancements in hemostatic techniques; there are unmet needs for the introduction of topical hemostatic agents in management of profound venous or arterial GIB and malignant lesions with a large surface area that are not quite amenable to trad...

Topical hemostatic agents in otolaryngologic surgery Kulak burun boğaz ve baş boyun cerrahisinde topikal hemostatik ajanlar

Topical hemostatic agents are largely used to reduce blood loss during otolaryngologic surgery. These agents play an important role in both keeping the patient’s hemodynamic equilibrium and allowing for a better view of the surgical field. These agents can be classified based on their mechanism of action, and include physical or mechanical agents. Most complications of topical hemostatic agents...

Topical hemostatic agents in liver surgery: do we need them?

Background: Worldwide, partial liver resections are increasingly performed for primary or secondary hepatic malignancies. There are various techniques to reduce blood loss during liver surgery. Several topical hemostatic agents have been developed to improve hemostasis of the resection surface and these agents are used more and more, even although the true effects remain unclear. Methods: The p...
